OKLAHOMA CITY, OKLA: -The Regional University System of Oklahoma (RUSO) Board of Regents elected Michael W. Mitchel as the board's New chair, with a term beginning July 1, 2011.

Mitchel was appointed to a nine year term on the RUSO Board by Governor Brad Henry in 2008 and has served as Vice Chair since 2010.

Mitchel is a member Woodward County Bar Association; the Oklahoma Association for Justice; the Association of Trial Lawyers of America; The National, Association of Criminal Defense Lawyers; the Woodward Chamber of Commerce; 101 Classic Bowl Foundation; ,and the Woodward Industrial Foundation

Mitchel is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Foundation, where he served on the Board of Trustees, and is a member of the Oklahoma Bar Association, (OBA), where he served as, Vice President and on the Board of Governors. The OBA awarded him Outstanding Young Lawyer Award in 1981. He has served on numerous OBA committees and has been a guest lecturer for its Continuing Legal Education Seminar

Prior to his appointment to the RUSO Board of Regents, Mitchel served on the Oklahoma State Board of Vocational and Technical Education and the State Board of Education. He received the Oklahoma Vocational Association Distinguished Service Award and has been a member of the Board of Trustees of the Northwestern Oklahoma State University Foundation.  He and his wife, Connie, have three children, one grandson and live in Woodward, Oklahoma.
